An extra day graces us for 2020 and with that an abundance of Mainline steam on Saturday the 29th of February, with three of Carnforths fleet in action on various Railtours in the North West of England.
The first of the days trips was given to the minor celebrity Jubilee 45699 'Galatea' posing as 45562 'Alberta' and was RTCs 'Cotton Mills' tour from Lancaster to Blackburn via Manchester and Copy Pit. We see the Jub accelerating away from Wigan North Western after picking up passengers.
Number two of the day was the regular 'Winter Cumbrian Mountain Express' originating at London Euston with steam taking over from Carnforth. Bulleid Merchant Navy 35018 'British India Line' was in charge and can be seen moving off shed at Carnforth before making the 1-75 climb of Shap.
And lastly Royal Scot 46115 'Scots Guardsman' was handed the helm of WCRC 'Spirit of the Lakes' tour, again for the run over Shap to Carlisle. The tour originated from Peterborough behind diesel traction, and we see the Scot making a fine accent of the 1-75 gradient.
And to finish the day, we witness the return leg of the CME over the Settle & Carlisle line and the accent of the south bound 'long drag' to Ais Gill with 35018 in fine voice. Hope you enjoy!
