Marc Ancrenaz est un vétérinaire français, spécialiste des singes. En 1996, pour la quatrième fois, il se rend bénévolement au Congo au sanctuaire de la Conkouati dirigé par Aliette Jamart. Là vivent 47 chimpanzés sauvés du braconnage, récupérés pour la plupart sur le marché de Pointe-Noire. Son objectif : faire un bilan de santé complet des pensionnaires du centre.
