The first part of my walk along the old Wombourne Branch Railway Line, which is made up of The Staffordshire Railway Walk, Smestow Valley Nature Reserve and The Pensnett/Kingswinford Railway Walk. In this part I start my walk at Aldersley Junction on the Staffordshire and Worcestershire Canal where it meets with the Birmingham Mainline Canal. We take the path leading away from the canal junction onto Aldersley Stadium where we pick up the beginning of the old railway path which is known as Smestow Valley Nature Reserve, continuing to Tettenhall, passing the former railway station which is still intact, from there we continue to Compton and pass remains of the old station platform, then follow the line to Castlecroft where it becomes the South Staffordshire Railway Walk, spotting some excellent artwork, the railway walk then heads into the countryside and on to Wombourne, we finish at the old station which is also mostly intact which is a stone's throw away from Wombourne Bratch Locks. We will continue from the railway station in part 2.
