Here's the next episode of Chordplay with The Acoustic Side of Sevendust.
Sevendust is a melodic hard rock band that formed in Atlanta, GA in 1994 and simply exploded onto the scene in the late 1990s following their impressive self-titled debut album and the series of successful albums and tours that have followed.
Their musical spark is led by guitarists Clint Lowery and John Connolly, who perform a fretboard "tag-team" of guitar riffs and chord-based tonalities in their music, which has always given the band a unique and signature sound.
Combine their interesting guitar textures/rhythms with vocalist Lajon Witherspoon's impressive vocals along with drummer/vocalist Morgan Rose and you have the nucleus for Sevendust's signature style and overall sound.
This acoustic-based lesson features a number of interesting and musical moments that lean toward the experimental side of things. For a band known for delivering a powerful and crushing hard rock style and sound, their music has also been written and recorded using acoustic instruments and clean guitars on a number of their releases, and they even released an acoustic concert DVD a few years ago which captured their interesting unplugged sound live and in concert.
This lesson also features a number of unusual and bizarre tunings, which makes it a great lesson for those that would like to tap into some different chord tonalities and voicings, not to mention getting a feel for using altered tunings and their various approaches to begin using different tunings to help you create new and different-sounding music.
