Sugba-Sugba sa Capilay is a signature highlight of San Juan’s annual fiesta honoring St. Augustine of Hippo, celebrated around the last week of August as part of the Bugwas Festival.
The term “Bugwas” means a spurt or abundant flow of water—reflecting San Juan’s reputation for its natural springs like Capilay
It’s held at Capilay Natural Cold Spring Park—a central, spring-fed venue in town.
The event runs for five consecutive nights, featuring performances, contests, live bands, and grilled foods—hence the name "Sugba-Sugba" (Tagalog for grilling).
