In this video, Dieter and I head out from our hometown Wellington on an epic loop adventure to explore a potential route for an upcoming guided trip — and wow, did we find some hidden gems.

We travel through a handful of small, scenic towns including Robertson, Montagu, and Barrydale, soaking in the charm of the Overberg along the way. Naturally, we had to stop for a legendary slice of cheesecake in Robertson 🍰 — which has now officially become a trip tradition.

The real highlight though? A forgotten mountain pass tucked deep in the landscape — barely used, rough, raw, and stunning. Most people don’t even know it exists, and driving it felt like discovering a secret chapter.

From there, we popped out near Heidelberg, where we found a beautiful, remote camping spot to spend the night under the stars, next to a river.
