"Down by the Salley Gardens" is a poem about young love by William Butler Yeats published in 1889 and later set to music. "Salley" or "sally" is a form of the Standard English word "sallow," referring to a species of willow tree. According to Wikipedia, the possible location of the "Salley Gardens" was on the banks of the river at Ballysadare near Sligo where the residents cultivated trees to provide roof thatching materials. I’m playing clawhammer/ clawgrass style in the key of G with backing track generated by Band-In-A-Box.
