BMW Motorsport developed the M3 GT based on the fourth-generation BMW M3 Coupe (E92) to compete in the Intercontinental #lemans Cup (ILMC)—the precursor to today's World Endurance Championship (WEC)—and the fiercely competitive American Le Mans Series (ALMS).
Campaigned as a partnership between BMW of North America and Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, this example claimed several victories in 2011 and 2012, including sweeping all three ALMS Class Championships in 2011 (Drivers', Teams', and Manufacturers'), along with class wins at the 12 Hours of Sebring in 2011 and 2012.
