Time Behind Bars Run – Day 9: Fitzroy Crossing to Kununurra – Heat, Hamburgers & Hilarious Moments
Day 9 of the Time Behind Bars Run cranked things up — literally. We rolled out of Fitzroy Crossing and headed east, battling temperatures soaring over 45°C as we pushed toward Kununurra.
First fuel stop of the day was Halls Creek, followed by a break at Turkey Creek, where the heat was so intense that China climbed inside the ice box just to cool down. Meanwhile, Mark delivered the laugh of the day when he jumped under a hose without letting it run first — only to get blasted by super-heated Kimberley hose water. Classic 80s-kid mistake.
Next up was Doon Doon Roadhouse, proudly advertising the “Best Hamburgers in Town”.
From there, we pushed on to Kununurra for the night, wrapping up one of the hottest and most memorable days of the trip.
