WHEN A CLASSIC LONG RUN TURNED INTO A SPEED SESSION (Sandwiched 12k at Marathon Pace)

This was supposed to be a classic long run: 2 hours and 30 minutes at an easy pace. But just before I wanted to start with the run, I decided to change the format — and turned it into a 14 km marathon pace session instead. The NEW plan: 1 km warm-up, 12 km at marathon pace, 1 km cool-down. A controlled effort, focused on pacing, form, and staying mentally sharp.
Sometimes marathon training needs flexibility. Not every run has to follow the schedule exactly. What matters is the purpose behind the session. In this case, the goal was to simulate the race rhythm and find out how the marathon pace feels on tired legs at the current training status
This is how I adjusted, and why.
(Marathon Training Week 16 of 40 — Road to Berlin and Chicago Marathon — 4 weeks to go until the real training plan starts...).
