Shu's friend, Souta, gets Hare (who has stood by Shu's side the entire anime and who believed in him and gave him confidence) killed (right after her confession -- the death scene was very well done though -- she had been one of my favorite character from the beginning -- she went out like an angel doing what she does best -- being kind and selfless) by Shu's friends lying to him about training with their voids (which is why Shu punched the heck out of Souta's face). They made Shu become a monster and then they betrayed him because he became what they made him become themselves.
