This was one of those rare nights where everything lined up perfectly for a shot that’s normally almost impossible to pull off. The full moon was unusually close and hanging low on the horizon which is the most challenging position to capture due to extreme atmospheric distortion.
But on this night, the ground temperature was almost identical to the air temperature. That meant minimal shimmering and distortion — a small window where the image could be as sharp and clean as possible.
The result is an extraordinary detailed look of the moon, captured in all its texture and depth (which is very hard to do on a flat lit moon).
