This is a recording of Britten's Missa Brevis in D. I am not very fond of Britten, but during my time in Marseilles (November 1992 to the summer of 1993) as a deacon serving at the Chapelle du Saint Nom de Marie (Institute of Christ the King), I was invited to accompany a school choir in the church of St Pius X in the Rue du Tapis Vert. The recording in late 1992 was a professional job and a CD was made. I have not found any reference to this CD on the internet, and I am unable to lay my hands on my copy. I just have the mp3 files I ripped from it. The choir is a "maîtrise" of children in a school in Marseilles, and the musical director was a highly competent lady. I remember the organ in this church, an electro-pneumatic job with a detached console. I have never known a noisier pedalboard. For many passages, I used a 16-foot stop on the Great and played them on the manual with my hands to avoid the thumping of the pedalboard. The recording was hard work. This was nearly 30 years ago.
