The bedsides were brought back in a suitcase from America to be grafted in to this 91 dual cab Hilux from Australia.
Still learning as I go, I am no fabricator and this is by far the biggest task that I've taken on so far. During this process, I found that welding continuously from one end to the other created less ripples and was much faster than staggered tack welds, providing that the gap is perfect. All welds were plannished back to reverse the distortion once the skin was removed.
The rear wheel was originally slightly recessed into the back of the cab. A new chassis was made with a longer wheelbase, therefore the tub had to be extended. Extra cab skins were used and shortened to suit the new wheel base.
The reason for adding the bodyline to the rear is to match the Gen 3 surf front and bodyline which was previously added on.
The taillights are from a 97-04 Hilux.
