Lung & Ungripp - Imprisonment for Public Protection

There are nearly 2,500 prisoners currently serving indefinite Imprisonment for Public Protection (IPP) sentences in the UK. This sentence was abolished over 10 years ago but prisoners and their families are still suffering the stress and pain of not knowing a release date. 300 people have died in prison while serving this sentence – 94 of those took their own life. Arts organisation Lung and campaign group Ungripp are collaborating on a series of events, and the painting of pebbles to represent those still serving sentences and those who died, leading to an eventual installation. Here is a short film of the launch event at the Labour Party Conference in Liverpool last month.
