REPAIR OF YAMAHA PSR S910 THAT SHUTS DOWN AND SOMETIMES RESTARTS ITSELF AFTER WORKING FOR A WHILE OR DURING BOOTING.
The keyboard was sent to us by a customer that saw our repair posts online, he's from Lokoja, Kogi State here in Nigeria. .
He has given it to technicians to fix but they couldn't and he was advised to get another motherboard which was quite expensive, but we assured him that we can fix the fault irrespective of the part involved.
This kind of fault can emanate from faulty;
1. Power switch button
2. Power panel (analog motherboard)
3. EIF panel
4. Digital motherboard (mainboard)
5. Sometimes, connectors/flex/cable/wire
Each part listed above has selected components related to power and those are the ones to be diagnosed (not all components are associated with power)
After thorough diagnosis, we discovered that the fault was from the 2 main 256Mbit SDRAM (SYNCHRONIZED DYNAMIC RANDOM ACCESS MEMORY) they are actually the only working SD RAM on that panel and few other SMDs (surface mount devices). Signal tracer, oscilloscope and few other instruments when involved in the diagnosis.
We desoldered them and replaced with brand new ones, after which the keyboard was tested for several hours without tripping off or restart.
N:B
Don't just go ahead to replace the working SD RAM when you have this kind of fault. The faulty part for yours can be other components or other part entirely.
