"No. 1 is a test of the player's sense of time through percussive offbeat echoes and conersational hocket elements between the clareint's acoustic sound and the quarter-note delay. Time should remain strict throughout, and the player should strive to keep even eigth-note subdivisions within the meter. The player should note that the delay engages in measure 4 and remains on for the remainder of the study."
