In a busy courtroom session, multiple cases were addressed with Judge overseeing proceedings. Carly Davis, involved in causes 25 DCCR 1451 and 1452, requested a few additional weeks to review discovery due to some issues. The court confirmed her non-narcotic medication had been reduced and requested proof, emphasizing timely submission to ensure clarity. Davis was reminded to stay in contact with her bond officer and comply with all conditions.
Bethany Loza Diaz, charged with a state jail felony for driving while intoxicated with a child passenger (25 DCCR0928), pleaded guilty voluntarily. The judge confirmed her understanding of the plea agreement, including the waiving of appeal rights and potential consequences for non-U.S. citizens. Her two-year state jail sentence was probated for five years with a $1,000 fine, pending a pre-sentence report from probation.
Martin Ward, who previously pled no contest to a Class C disorderly conduct charge, was found guilty, and his $250 fine was confirmed as paid. Similarly, Diamond James’ case involving hindering apprehension of a known felon was reset for further coordination with her attorney.
Several defendants, including Ramadan Castillo, Charles Darling, Michael Thomas Jr., and Charles Gry Jr., had cases set for upcoming jury trials. Gry Jr., charged with theft in aggregation amounts (23-41646), pled guilty voluntarily and was sentenced to two years in state jail, probated for five years, with a $500 fine and $6,136 restitution. The judge emphasized the importance of making regular restitution payments and explained potential consequences for probation violations. Gry Jr. was also formally admonished on his ineligibility to possess firearms under Texas law.
The session demonstrated the court’s focus on procedural compliance, defendant awareness of legal consequences, and the management of pre-trial and probation matters, balancing resolution of charges with judicial oversight and adherence to probation and restitution requirements.
