Which Route Is Better ?
PLAB or MRCP.???

We have been asked this question 100s of time and some times it’s really hard for us to explain, so I thought I should Write a post about it…

First of all this question itself is wrong …

Plab is IMG graduation Equivalence Exam where as MRCP is Not only Post Graduate exam but also among one of the few highest Medical Qualifications .

MRCP is at least 10 times more difficult than PLAB,

You may have seen lot of doctors passing Mrcp 1-2 theory exams but do they actually complete full MRCP? Do they all pass Clinical PACES Exam?

Let me explain you further ,

Royal College Of Physicians has 550 years history and in those 550 years they have only produced 40,000 Members . ( This fact was recently mentioned in RCP Med Plus Conference video is available on portal )

So, 40,000 in 550 years ?

Means less than 8000 doctors in 100 years

This means less than 800 Members in 10 years

So on an average only 80 Members per year are produced by Royal College of Physicians.

Out of 1000s of doctors who appear in Mrcp exams per year only 80-100 are successful in getting full MRCP.

On the other hand , Plab has more than 85-90% success rates overall, it’s easier , cheaper and very much doable at junior level.

If you are already in FCPS trainings , have a great clinical exposure and knowledge than you can think of doing MRCP other wise better to opt PLAB route.

There is no doubt MRCP is higher qualification, it’s better and you may even get IELtS/Oet exemption … but ask yourself these questions Before you join the race
“ Will I be able to complete full Mrcp?”
Do I have enough resources?
have I got enough clinical exposure?
Do I have a mentor? supervisor? Who can help?
