On Earth, the methane in our atmosphere is mostly produced by living organisms, however, methane was also found on Mars in 2005. Whatever produced this methane must have been around for at least the past 300 or so years, which is why we are happy to try and discover if there really is life on Mars. We will either use Curiosity, or by ESA's ExoMars spacecraft, which was designed to analyse the methane on Mars' surface, and is scheduled to launch in 2016.

Scott C Waring, a devotee to extraterrestrial life, managed to find a human-like figure whilst looking through photos from the 4WD droid, which is exploring Mars' surface. The possible human, or possible alien, has sent the alien believers into a flurry, but with good cause; there have been further discoveries of houses, and even replica statues of the Easter Islands heads, on NASA images. Is Mr. Waring right to believe?

Mars' poles are almost in eternal winter, with them being covered in frozen carbon dioxide. However, near the end of each Martian Summer, the Southern Pole begins to defrost, leaving the edges of the gradually melting pits, a glimmering gold. Whether it is gold or not, still remains a mystery.

The “Mars rat” was discovered on a 2013 image from Curiosity. Everyone's minds were blown by the rat, and the rock-rat eventually got its own Twitter account, in order to talk to its fans, cheekily mocking us for wasting years on searching for life, when all we found was him. However, he also threatened a Mars rat invasion, so be warned...

Despite Mars being one, whole planet, its surfaces seems to differ, depending which side you look at. Its Northern side is smooth, and has been suggested it is due to water that may have flowed centuries ago, whilst its Southern side is rough, with craters that stretch far and wide. One theory of Mars' two faces, is due to a large meteorite crashing into the planet many, many years ago.

Evidence has always pointed to Mars once having running water over its surface, but is there still liquid on the planet? The atmospheric pressure of Mars is too low for liquid water to remain on its surface, however photographic images have shown us that every Spring, there are possibilities of saltwater running down the slopes.

On our several ventures to Mars, scientists have suggested that it was once a hot enough climate upon the surface of the planet, to have liquid running. These include oceans, valleys and rivers. They even discovered minerals that require water for their formation. Scientists remain unsure of how the warm temperatures could have existed, as the sun was much weaker. There is still evidence however, to suggest that the ancient planet was once warm enough, and evidence also points to Mars once being cold and wet, not cold and dry nor warm and wet, as it is often assumed.
