MID WALES HISTORIC STAGES
The Mid Wales Historic Stages consisted of eight stages, with the first two, both in Hafren Forest, being contested on Saturday evening, before six further tests filled the Sunday schedule.

Historics
There was a close battle for victory in the Historic category of the Mid Wales Stages, with Patrick Watts/Elgan Davies (Sunbeam Tiger) leading Steven Smith/John Nichols (Porsche 911) for most of the event. However, Watts/Davies went off the road on the penultimate stage, Cymysgawen, and lost 30 seconds. This indiscretion allowed Smith/Nichols, who had been fastest on all the Sunday stages, through to take the win by 11 seconds. Watts/Davies did enough to just hold off Dessie Nutt/Geraldine McBride (Porsche 911) for second place.

Post Historics
David Stokes/Ian Oakey (Ford Escort RS) were the early leaders in the Post-Historic category; they had been fastest on all of the first three stages, but then clutch failure put them out. This left Jeremy Easson/Den Golding (Ford Escort RS1600) with a substantial lead, especially as the only other challengers, Dominic Frattaroli/Wyn Thomas (Datsun 240Z), also went out at the same point as Stokes.

Classics
After a run of retirements, Gareth Lloyd/Ryland James (Ford Escort RS2000) took a clear win in the Classic category, taking fastest time on all bar the opening stage. Martin Freestone/Chris Heyes (Ford Escort RS1800) had been quickest on SS1, but then fell back and were 35 seconds behind the winners at the Finish.
