Maserati MC20: Is Beauty More Than Skin Deep?

Let’s test drive the Maserati MC20 Cielo and GT2 Stradale! And thanks @homefieldapparel for sponsoring this video!
We’re driving Circuit of The Americas’ grand prix circuit, which is a 3.4-mile, 20-turn track with harsh braking zones, sweeping corners, high- and low-speed curves, and a really nice rhythm. I love this track and can draw the layout with my eyes closed. (We also got rides in Maserati’s MCXtrema race car, which is a 730-horsepower track car limited to 62 units, and drove the GranTurismo Trofeo Coupe a bit.)
The MC20 Cielo is a spyder supercar with a $300,000-ish price tag. “MC20” stands for “Maserati Corse 2020,” referring to the brand’s comeback in racing, and “Cielo” is the Italian word for “sky.” It has a twin-turbocharged, 3.0-liter V6 engine that makes 621 horsepower and 538 pound-feet of torque, and that power goes through an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission to the rear wheels. The claimed 0-to-60 time is 3 seconds, and the top speed is about 200 mph.
The Cielo convertible uses a carbon-fiber tub around the passenger compartment for lightness and rigidity, and overall, the retractable hardtop makes this car 143 pounds heavier than the normal coupe. You can put the top down in 12 seconds at speeds up to 30 miles per hour, and if you’re feeling iffy about the sky on any given day, you can switch the glass from clear to matte with the “Cielo” button.
The Maserati GT2 Stradale is the MC20’s cousin — basically, Maserati took an MC20 and made it into a race car called the GT2. Then, Maserati decided to make a road-legal version of the GT2, which became the GT2 Stradale. That makes the GT2 Stradale a more hardcore version of the MC20, with 631 horsepower to the MC20’s 621. It also has an 8-speed dual-clutch auto. There are also only 914 units of the GT2 Stradale, and each one of them displays their number in the production order.
In this video, we’re asking and answering one big question: In a world of Ferrari vs. Lamborghini vs. every other luxury supercar, does modern Maserati make a real supercar? I think the answer is yes. Maserati makes several, and they’re all beautiful (and expensive). These aren’t perfect supercars, but what supercar is perfect? You’ll always have quirks and sacrifices in cars, whether your price bracket is $30,000 or $300,000. You just have to decide which quirks and sacrifices are right for you.
Thanks for watching my YouTube channel. Enjoy the drive (and the video)!
