so from the canon series of sodor fallout, the last time we know about gordon is when he went passed by percy and the beast went after him instead of finishing percy off. i wasn't sure if this would might be part of the canon series yet, but there was some evidence that could explain a few things about what happended to gordon. it also happen on the same day and timing on july 6th, i would think that he crashed into something at a level crossing, causing him and his train to derail.
