That's right all you creeps! Today we are making the perfect Halloween cocktail, the Deadite!
On this special episode we wanted to pay homage to our favorite cult classic film, Evil Dead. All of us at CraftTender wanted to make a cocktail that could resonate with cocktail nerds and horror movie fanatics the same.
Deadites are the demons that are summoned throughout the film that Ash slays in tremendous fashion. This cocktail features activated charcoal and an interesting product that is a great vegan alternative to the egg white; Aquafaba.
So when it comes to cocktail creation we wanted to be inspired by ingredients that would hanius looking but delicious tasting. Aquafaba is the liquid that is collected from soaking legumes. We used garbanzo or chickpea liquid for the foaming agent and activated charcoal for the dark menacing appearance.
To sweeten the cocktail we used Giffards Creme De Mure, which is a blackberry flavored liquor. After all, its Halloween people!
We also featured an amazing Irish Whiskey, Greenspot. Finally, we garnish with a dehydrated orange peel powder that is grinded down and sifted on top of the cocktail to give it the orange and black Halloween color scheme but also gives the cocktail the right citrus quality necessary for a sour style cocktail.
Activated charcoal has a ton of reported health benefits. Detoxification, anti-aging, digestive health benefits and heart health. We decided to use Aquafaba because there is a lot of skepticism about using raw egg whites.
This gives our “sour style” cocktail drinkers the piece of mind to know you won't die of salmonella on Halloween. Although activated charcoal has a ton of health benefits, be advised a ton of articles have been written about how it tends to slow the absorption rate of most medications.
So, if you are on serious medication.. Maybe don’t make this cocktail. In fact, DON'T DRINK AT ALL.
We hope you enjoy the cocktail and we will see all you haunted hangovers in November.
