The Rironi-Mau Summit Road is a major Kenyan highway project transforming the busy Nairobi-Western Kenya route into a 4-lane dual carriageway, aiming to cut congestion, boost regional trade (to Uganda, Rwanda, DRC), and improve safety, with construction launched by President Ruto in late 2025 and a target completion by 2027, involving significant investment and tolls.
Key Details:
Project Scope: Upgrading the 175 km road from a single carriageway to a four-lane dual carriageway.
Purpose: To ease traffic, reduce travel time, enhance safety, and support economic growth and trade with East African neighbours.
Launch: Officially launched by President William Ruto in late November 2025.
Timeline: Expected completion by June 2027 (or May 2027).
Cost: A Sh170 billion (or potentially higher, around Sh200B) project under a Public-Private Partnership (PPP).
