Howarth Park is just south of Everett and a new spot for me. The bridge from the parking lot to the dog friendly beach has been redone, although I never saw it prior to its recent rehabilitation. Of course the sides are encased in heavy duty fencing material so using it as a video platform is difficult.
After crossing the bridge, there are several nice spots to shoot video, but the best is just off the bridge on a fairly nice mound of beach that provides a great open view of north bound trains, including the signals. There are also some nice breaks in the fence along the right of way which give a nice view of either northbound or southbound traffic without violating the right of way.
This area is part of the BNSF Scenic Subdivision and it was very busy this morning. I just missed a northbound oil train with an old war bonnet on DPU duty, but I had seen BNSF 7519 parked just south of Bayside Yard so I knew it would be coming shortly.
Naval Station Everett is home to two Guided-Missile Destroyers, a Coast Guard Keeper-class cutter USCGC Henry Blake, and a USCG Marine Protector Class Patrol Boat, USCGC Blue Shark. There are about 6,000 sailors and civil service persons assigned to commands located at Naval Station Everett. The Naval Station itself has about 350 sailors and civilians assigned.
BNSF 7026 pulls an empty trash train northbound after receiving the green light.
Just as we were about to leave, light coming around the bend let me know that another train was northbound. I decided to remain on the bridge and shoot through a slot between the fencing material. Fortunately there weren’t a lot of pedestrians using the bridge that morning which can be a real problem at other locations such as Carkeek Park. BNSF 4565 pulls a loaded coal train to the Roberts Bank terminal in BC Canada. Note the SD70MAC in executive livery in third position. These are very common on coal trains coming from the Powder River Basin in Wyoming.
As always, thank you for watching!
