Presque 45 minutes de portage depuis Finhaut, avec seulement quelques portions sur la route à l’ombre où j’ai pu remettre les peaux. La vraie montée à ski a commencé à la sortie de la forêt.
L’ascension s’est faite sans difficulté particulière, mis à part les 20 derniers mètres avant le col, où j’ai préféré déchausser : les conversions devenaient un peu délicates à cause de la pente et de la neige ramollie par le soleil.

Pour la descente, deux options s’offraient à moi :

L’itinéraire de montée, déjà très tracé et où la neige avait bien tourné, sauf dans les zones à l’ombre où elle restait encore très bonne.

La descente par le barrage, que j’ai finalement choisie après avoir rencontré un groupe de Français au col. Ils descendaient justement de ce côté, et comme je ne connaissais pas cet itinéraire en hiver, je les ai suivis — un grand merci à eux !

La neige était excellente à skier, malgré l’exposition. Et surtout, c’était beaucoup moins tracé que de l’autre côté. Comptez environ 1 h 30 de descente : une vraie aventure, avec tunnels, échelles à monter et à descendre. Une longue randonnée, mais absolument incroyable !

The ascent was straightforward overall, except for the last 20 meters before reaching the pass, where I decided to take off my skis — the kick turns had become a bit tricky due to the steep slope and the snow softening under the sun.

For the descent, there were two options:

The ascent route, which was already heavily tracked and where the snow had turned quite a bit, except in the shaded areas where it was still very good.

The descent towards the dam, which I eventually chose after meeting a group of French skiers at the pass. They were heading down that way, and since I had never done this route in winter, I decided to follow them — a big thank you to them!

The snow was great to ski despite the exposure, and it was much less tracked than the other side. Expect about 1 hour and 30 minutes of descent — a real adventure, with tunnels and ladders to climb up and down. A long tour, but absolutely incredible!
