Royal Marine Commando and WW2 hero George Simms remembers D-Day

Royal Marine Commando George Simms was among the first men to land on the beaches of Normandy in June, 1944. “I’ve got a lifetime of memories from D-Day, I’m awake most nights until Midnight thinking about what I went through on D-Day. It was absolute hell on earth. You could never describe what it was like, honestly.

Today he resides in Broughton House in Manchester - a dedicated nursing home for veterans to live out their final years in comfort. Veterans often need the support of people who can relate to and understand their own experiences. This community of Veterans is a blessing to those who reside there.

Broughton House has received grants from the Veterans' Foundation - money raised from the Veterans' Lottery.
