Today’s adventure starts at Hulls Trace in Brownstown, Michigan - a place where outdoor adventure meets history.
Hulls Trace was the site of Michigan’s first military road, built during the War of 1812 to connect Detroit to Ohio. The road was made from logs, known as a corduroy road, and remnants can still be seen near the launch.
From here, I paddle the Huron River, part of the Detroit River International Wildlife Refuge. Along the way, I spot local wildlife like bald eagles, herons, and turtles, while taking in the peaceful scenery just minutes away from Detroit.
