This session introduces teachers to computational thinking through the use of j2code, focusing on how coding activities can develop pupils’ logical reasoning, sequencing skills, and problem-solving strategies. Participants will explore progression from simple, unplugged-style activities to block-based coding challenges, suitable across a range of primary age groups. The session will also demonstrate how coding supports resilience, perseverance, and a growth mindset when pupils are faced with challenges.
Teachers will leave with practical examples of classroom-ready tasks and a clear understanding of how coding activities using Just2easy align with the:
Northern Ireland ICT Desirable Features and curriculum requirements
Welsh Digital Competence Framework (DCF) – part of Curriculum for Wales and designed to develop digital skills across the curriculum
Scottish Curriculum for Excellence Technologies experiences and outcomes, which include digital literacy and computing science at every stage of learning.
Delivery:
Delivered through Microsoft Teams
Outcomes:
By the end of this session, teachers will be able to:
Explain how j2code supports the development of computational thinking, including logic, sequencing, and algorithmic thinking
Design age-appropriate coding activities that progress from simple sequences to more complex problem-solving challenges
Use effective scaffolding strategies to support debugging, trial-and-error, and learner resilience
Recognise opportunities to encourage collaboration and discussion during coding tasks
