In New Kingdom Egypt (c.1500--1100 BCE), scribes began to compose dramatic tales of warrior heroes. From Kings like Seqenenra and Thutmose III, to generals like Djehuty, they immortalised the feats of conquerors in a sort of 'historical fiction.' In this interview, Dr. Colleen Darnell introduces the themes and tropes of such literature, and how it reveals aspects of life and history during this ancient era.
