Afternoon, 21 January 2026: It is fine and sunny in Colombo's top shopping district. The turnover in this district has risen lately in response to a moderate uptick in the GNP partly owing to what passes for good political government in Sri Lanka.
However, as you can see from the facial expressions of the passers-by there is misery a'plenty all around. The primary reason is that Sri Lanka is a "low trust" country and people who make this country their home learn, usually by hard experience, that even "friends" and relatives are among the worst of the conmen and conwomen.
In the middle of the video one hears the call of the Imam of the Red Masjid Mosque calling the Faithful to prayer. Regretfully, one learns that in Sri Lanka among the worst of the bad offenders; many project religious images. They want to be seen in a holy place groveling to a god who seems to rarely care what happens to us.
There is talk of the possibility of a nuclear exchange between major powers in the news just now. Sri Lanka is rated as one of the safest countries in the world if that happens. However, with such companions ...
