Saxophone repairman Matt Stohrer of http://www.StohrerMusic.com does some high-stakes on-camera solder wicking and shows how a repairer might tackle the particular problem of removing solder from a joint without total disassembly.
This procedure is NOT recommended for non-professionals, as a good amount of "finesse" is required- knowing your torch, your materials and how fast the heat will travel in them, knowing the melt temp. of the solder, knowing when the lacquer will burn, etc. etc. etc.
If you try this and you don't know all of these things, you will make a semi-permanent mess, and it will cost a good bit more to pay a professional to fix it than you would have saved via DIY had it gone right.
