My daughter Claire and her boyfriend Ryan invited me to attend the Midwest Haunted Rails event with them this year. It didn’t take much convincing for me to say yes—though I told them I was going mainly for the trains, not the haunted house!
Both steam engines, the 2-6-0 Mogul #6 and the Shay #9, were operating, and it was a real treat to see them in action. I even had the chance to meet Lauren Osier, “The Female Foamer,” and asked what it would take to get a cab ride in one of the steam engines.
I hope you enjoy the sights and sounds of this Halloween event, hosted on the Old Threshers Fairgrounds in Mount Pleasant, Iowa. For me, the trains were by far the highlight of the evening!
