Waltz in C-sharp Minor, performed by NUS Guitar Ensemble as part of Strings and Reeds: A Meadow in Melody, held at NUS University Cultural Centre Theatre, Singapore, on 22nd March 2025.
Composed in 1847 by piano virtuoso and renowned composer Frédéric Chopin, Waltz in C-sharp Minor is an elegant interplay of wistful longing and graceful motion. Initially, the piece unfolds with a melancholic sway, featuring a sombre melody delicately shaped by the subtle use of rubato. As it moves into the Lento section, the music shifts towards a warmer, grander and more expansive sound. This contrast creates a moment of serenity that offers a brief escape before the waltz returns to the restless elegance of the main theme, weaving a narrative of longing and fleeting beauty.
Composed by Frédéric Chopin
Arranged by Hiroki Niibori
Conducted by Cai Tianxiang
