The most suprising part of the trip on the Eurostar from London to Paris was the crowded chaos we went through in the hour before departure. It's similar to going through security at a crowded airport.
Aside from the long lines, it's a great way to travel between the cities. Just remember: it's not a typical train trip between domestic destinations. You'll be crossing between the EU & UK, so there are layers of security involved.
Heading from London to Paris, you'll depart from King's Cross Saint Pancras Station (I'm pronouncing it "Pancra" without the "s" because that's the way the agent in line pronounced it.)
While the station has ticket kiosks, you should book in advance, since the trains can sell out.
Arrive early, because you’ll need the time to get through security.
You’ll start going through security 60 to 80 minutes before departure. It took us 40 minutes to get through the long lines on this busy summer day.
After security, there’s a large waiting area with food options.
Your track will be announced 20 minutes before departure.
The Eurostar train itself is very comfortable, with plenty of legroom and luggage storage options.
The ride is a bit over 2 hours. Depending on which "class" you book, they’ll offer a meal along the way, plus wine, tea, and coffee.
There’s another bar cart, too.
Arriving in Paris is easy, since you’ve already had your passport checked in London.
You’ll be at Gare du Nord, in north-central Paris, and from here you can walk, take the Metro, or a car to your destination in the city.
