Small angle X-ray scattering (SAXS) is a non-invasive method to understand detailed structural information of a system having length scales typically between ~ 1 nm to ~ 300 nm. My lecture will be focused towards potential users to gain some basic understanding of SAXS technique viz. the sort of information which can be obtained from various types of samples; why SAXS is useful when similar information can be obtained by other characterization methods; and what is required to achieve a good data in order to be analysed further. Some applications of SAXS for soft matter like surfactant assemblies, nanoparticles systems, and protein-polymeric thin films will also be discussed.
