This week, I’m going to be playing some bass over one of the best known jazz standards out there - Satin Doll written by Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn. This is one of those pieces of the jazz canon that everyone will know, whether they are deep in jazz or not, so it’s a great one to know. I’m taking a variety of approaches on here, ranging from a two feel to straight walking, chromatic passing tones, and rhythmic embellishments. As usual, I’m playing the line on Double Bass here, but this is a great one to play on Bass Guitar too! Try playing this version - the music is on screen in both notation and tablature!
