Jeera Rice Recipe / Cumin Rice
Jeera rice or cumin rice is the most popular Indian restaurant dishes. The tempering of cumin and fragrant of bay leaf takes the simple rice dish to a whole new level. This recipe is super easy and you don’t need a rice cooker or fancy equipment to make this. Just a few ingredients and you will have flavorful jeera rice ready in 10 mins.
Ingredients:
Long grain Basmati Rice – 1 cup
Water – 2 cups
Salt
Cumin Seeds – 1 tsp.
Bay leaf – 1
Green Chilly – 1
Oil /Butter/Ghee – 1 tbsp.
Lemon juice
Coriander leave – hand full
Method:
1) Wash the rice few times until water runs clear. Then soak it for 30 mins. After half hour drain water completely.
2) Boil 2 cups water in a separate pot.
3) In a pot heat Oil or Butter Or Ghee.
4) Sauté Bay leaf, green chilly & cumin seeds.
5) Fry on a low flame until nice aroma comes out.
6) Add the drained rice and fry for 2 mins. (This helps add more flavor to the rice and prevents it from sticking.
7) Add hot water, salt, Lemon juice & coriander leaves. Keep the flame high.
8) Bring the rice to a quick boil. And then reduce the heat to a simmer.
9) Cover & cook for approximately 10 mins, till all the water has evaporated & rice is cooked through.
10) Turn off the flame and let the rice rest for 15 mins.
Serve hot.
