This video was about the local market - An Đông Market in District 5 Chinatown. Over the years, I have visited this market about 3 times. I believe in 2009, I traveled with my mom back to Vietnam then we were visiting this market with my aunt as well. In those earlier years, there were more people and stores. The market was bustling with activities--as I remember....
Nowadays, most of the traditional markets are winding down. Most people would go to the more modern markets -indoor supermarkets filled with air conditioners- to shop for food and other household essentials. The old traditional markets are mostly catered to the locals who live in the surrounding alleys and smaller rural areas throughout Ho Chi Minh City.
Anyhow, I believe these markets will all 'disappear' in coming years/decades. As technology and modern way of life continue to progress, these old markets will gradually die off. It may be a while, however.
Meanwhile, I will continue my pursue of this hobby: to record as many old markets as I can--for posterity sake.
Enjoy !
