When you learn Russian, you'll need to learn some word endings: that's how we distinguish "Sonya likes hedgehogs" from "hedgehogs like Sonya." But to spell those endings correctly, we need to know whether the stem of the word is hard, or soft. So in this beginner's tutorial we'll cover what stems are, how to know whether a stem is hard or soft, and a couple other things to help you get your ending right.
To get the most from this video, you should have a basic understanding of hard and soft consonants, and how to spell these sounds in the Russian alphabet – feel free to watch this video for an introduction or to review: • Hard and Soft Consonants in Russian (REVISED)
