Gangotri yatra 2024| Gangotri dham Darshan | Gangotri dham sightseeing |Gangotri tour guide Bengali
Gangotri is one of the four sites in the Chota Char Dham pilgrimage circuit. It is also the origin of the Ganges river and, per Hinduism, the seat of the goddess Ganga. The source of the Ganges river is the Bhagirathi River, originating from the Gangotri Glacier. Once the river confluences with the Alakananda River at a town called Devprayag it finally acquires the name Ganga.
Near the river is a stone where King Bhagiratha performed penance to Shiva in order to bring the Ganga down to earth and absolve the sins of his ancestors. According to another legend, Pandavas performed the great 'Deva Yajna' here to atone the deaths of their kinsmen in the epic battle of the Mahabharata. Hindus believe that performing the ancestral rites on the banks of Bhagirathi frees the spirit of the ancestor from the cycle of rebirth and a holy dip in its waters cleanses sins committed in the present also past births.
How to Go:-
Starting Point: Haridwar
Haridwar serves as the starting point of the Gangotri Yatra. Pilgrims gather here and perform religious rituals before commencing their journey. It is advisable to spend a day in Haridwar to explore its temples and witness the captivating Ganga Aarti ceremony.
First Stop: Uttarkashi
After leaving Haridwar, the next destination is Uttarkashi, located approximately 145 kilometers away. Uttarkashi is known for its tranquil ambiance and is adorned with ancient temples. The Nehru Institute of Mountaineering is also situated here, attracting adventure enthusiasts.
Second Stop: Gangnani
Gangnani, located around 25 kilometers from Uttarkashi, is the second stop on the Gangotri Yatra route. This serene place is famous for its natural hot springs, which are believed to have therapeutic properties. Devotees often take a dip in these hot springs to cleanse their bodies before proceeding further.
Third Stop: Harsil
Harsil, nestled amidst the Himalayas, is the next stop on the route. This picturesque valley is known for its breathtaking views of snow-capped peaks, dense forests, and the Bhagirathi River flowing through it. Harsil offers a serene environment for meditation and reflection.
Final Destination: Gangotri
The final destination of the Gangotri Yatra is Gangotri itself. Situated at an elevation of 3,048 meters, Gangotri is the place where the River Ganga originates from the Gangotri Glacier. The Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Goddess Ganga, is the main attraction here. Devotees offer prayers and seek blessings at the temple before proceeding to the source of the river.
