On one of the coldest mornings in Ladakh, we ventured out at the crack of dawn to visit the wealthiest monastery in Ladakh, Hemis Monastery. There are so many ancient stories about Hemis, including the belief that it houses a two-volume manuscript called "The Life of Saint Issa," whom some historians believe to be Jesus Christ. Nevertheless, Hemis has been an active monastery for a long time, where many of the great masters of India, Nepal, and Tibet have visited or resided.
