#Abanindranath Tagore House Konnagar || অবনীন্দ্রনাথ ঠাকুরের বাগানবাড়ি || #Oneday Tour Near Kolkata
The Garden house at Konnagar or Konnagar Baganbari is located at Konnagar in the Serampore sub-division of Hooghly district. It is associated with the Jorasanko Tagore family. It was constructed in the 1870s by Gunendranath Tagore - a cousin of Rabindranath Tagore. He was the son of Girindranath Tagore, the second son of Prince Dwarkanath Tagore. A well-known painter and author Abanindranath Tagore was the son of Gunendranath. In his memoirs Apan Katha and Gharoa, Abanindranath described the Konnagar Baganbari. According to Abanindranath, Gunendranath spent a large amount of money in building the garden-house and decorating it with furniture and artworks. These were brought in from different countries of the world. The most sparkling of these artworks was a fountain, entirely carved out of crystal. He also described that there were several weekend parties that took place in this house.
After the premature death of Gunendranath, the Konnagar Baganbari also passed away from the Tagore family. Although the house still survives, it has lost its lavish grandeur as described by Abanindranath Tagore.
