"Mama" Lou Parks , in 1959, began to teach groups of dancers in New York City how to dance the classic Afro-American dances such as Cake Walk, Snake Hips, Solo Jazz Dance, and Lindy Hop.
These are legendary dancers that were almost forgotten by the community until they performed at the Count Basie Centennial Ball in New York City in 2004. since then they have affected countless Lindy Hop dancer in the modern day scene. Thank you Mama Lou and the Parkets for continue and sharing the Lindy Hop/Vernacular Jazz tradition.
