Easy Steps to Clean ECU/ECM on Your 2005 Acura TSX

I accidentally got my car's ECU/ECM wet and it made the car not driveable. I got some crazy codes, SRS lights, and the engine would shut off when I tried to drive the car. In this video I show you how I cleaned the ECU/ECM and got my car running again.

Don't use metal wire brushes to clean the ECU board. Only use Q-tips or plastic brushes.

The conformal coating prevents corrosion from moisture, but it does not waterproof the electronics.

Here is a video showing how to apply conformal coating with a brush. If you don't want to use a brush, you can buy the conformal coating in an aerosol can form.

Apply the conformal coating like if you're applying a varnish on wood or nail polish on nails, keep a wet edge and go in one direction.

I used the Acrylic type of conformal coating. If you want something better for boards exposed to the outdoors like on drones, use the silicone type. Be careful not to put in on the pins where the connectors go because the coating will block signals from passing through to another metal.

When choosing between acrylic and silicone conformal coating for automotive applications, you can consider things like cost, durability, and resistance to chemicals and temperature:

Acrylic conformal coating is less expensive than silicone, and it's easy to rework and remove. It's also a good choice for protection against moisture and dust, and it has a fast cure time. However, it's less durable than silicone and may not be adequate for more demanding environments.

Silicone conformal coating is more expensive than acrylic, but it's more durable and offers better protection against chemicals and high temperatures. It's also flexible and has excellent moisture protection, making it a good choice for outdoor or high humidity applications. However, it's not as good at resisting abrasion.
