68 miners arrived at the docks of Seattle on board the steamship Portland in 1897, and their cargo was one ton of gold. It didn't take long for word to spread around the world and the new gold rush was on. Over 100,000 people laid plans to make their way north to the gold fields in the Klondike, and like stampeding buffalo the race had begun, only they had no idea what they were getting themselves into. This is one of the darker stories in American and Canadian history and thanks to the recent advancements in still photography, this is one of the most well documented stories.
