Sleeping cold in the backcountry isn’t usually your sleeping bag — it’s your sleeping pad.
Your sleeping pad is what insulates you from the ground, and that’s where R-value really matters. Higher R-value means better insulation and a warmer night, especially when the pad is ASTM tested so the rating is legit.
