This film takes the viewer to the wonderful world of polar day in the north of Scandinavia. North of the Arctic Circle, the sun hardly sets in summer. The harsh conditions of polar night are now a thing of the past and warm temperatures and endless light cause nature to explode once the snow has melted. On land and in the sea, food is now abundant. But animals and plants now face tremendous challenges. Summer is brief, and there is very little time to bring forth the new generation. Around the clock, there’s a frenzy of growing, eating, feeding and hunting.
Migratory birds flock here from far away to breed, because they can feed their young almost constantly during the long days. Reindeer move in large herds to their summer pastures, even crossing the sea to reach them. Bears now feed incessantly to make up for their weight loss in winter. But living under the midnight sun also has its drawbacks: When do animals sleep if night never comes? How do they cope with increasingly frequent 30° heatwaves when they’re better adapted to extreme winter temperatures?

And how do they tolerate the mosquitoes that hatch in myriads and swarm around them incessantly? It’s not all peaceful, either. Predators are also on the prowl around the clock.
So how can a mother bear get her cubs to safety, away from marauding wolves?
How do adult birds protect their chicks when ravens and eagles continually spread fear and terror throughout the bird colony? Constant threat, unease and stress dominate life in this food paradise. Deadly danger lies side by side with abundant life in the land of the midnight sun.
