This is an easy day trip if you are already in the High Country, but also not too far from the outer eastern suburbs of Melbourne. You are spoilt for choice on ways to get to the top of Mt Terrible, a summit between Rubicon and Jamieson that overlooks the Victorian High Country to Mt Buller, The Bluff, Mt Skene and onwards. We chose to head up Mt Terrible Track which is accessible off Eildon-Jamieson Road, not far from Mansfield-Woods Point Road. You can come up from Big River, Woods Point or Marysville/Warburton. Some steep areas on the Mt Terrible Track itself, but used by emergency vehicles regularly it is well maintained. The Hut atop is rebuilt and only a few years old. You can camp up there and the top does get snow. From Jamieson and Kevington, the mountain can't be missed with its fire and radio towers. Strongly recommended for all the family and pack a picnic lunch.
